Swasthik Iyengar
Swasthik Iyengar was born to a Hindu family, and has been practicing Hinduism since childhood. She who was raised in India until her and her parents migrated to Australia during her youth. Swasthik was brought up by a community of family and friends who practiced traditional art forms such painting Hindu folk art of deities, painting local temples as well as practicing the art of traditional Kolam, as well as stick and poke tattooing.
In her early 20's she decided to pursue life experiences, where she moved to the UK and started to get tattooed, immersing herself in a community of friends that went to hardcore/punk shows. She was lucky to be able to get tattooed by some great British tattoo shops, who essentially inspired her to pursue her own tattoo apprenticeship.
After living in UK and Europe, Swasthik came back to Australia and commenced her apprenticeship in 2014. Guided by her roots, her culture and spiritual practice, Swasthik based her work on Indian tribal work as well as her unique and colourful American traditional style tattooing of Hindu deities, including existential concepts and mythological subject matters based on folklore and folk stories.
Being raised in a rich beautiful and spiritual country such as India, Swasthik's designs also reflect her love and appreciation for the beauties that Mother Nature offers. Her tribal work is set on a practice that is generations old which holds significant meaning and symbolism connected to Mother Earth, the planets and the Devine.
